This is a project I started sometime last year. This will be my entry for Shelf Queens. I want to get my mojo back and hopefully complete this.
This has long been on my list of things I wanted to build. My inspiration was a 1/35 scale model that I saw online and here it is.
I have also seen a photo of an actual one that served in Afghanistan.
I really liked how mean and rugged this BTS looked and I wanted to build one myself, but in 1/72.
These are the donor kits:
Here are the photos I took as I built it last year. I used the Revell T-55A as the base(gray parts), then I added parts from the Ace BTS-4A (brown parts)
The Revell kit came with the RMSh tracks but the reference photo shows that the tracks are OMSh. I used the tracks from OKB Grigorov. As a result, I will also use a combination of OKB Grigorov Starfish and Spider road wheels. To attach the wheels on the tracks, I used copper wires.
Here they are attached.
OKB Grigorov OMsh tracks attached.
An interesting feature of the BTS is the DShk MG tower. This is not included in both the Ace and Revell kits. I decided to create one using parts from the donor kits. For the tower, I used the fuel drum from the Revell kit. I removed the details from the fuel drum. Here's a before and after shot.
The tower has a lip. Since I will not be using the turret, I removed the loader's hatch and used it for that purpose. This is perfect because it will have the mounting ring for the DShk.
Here is the MG tower with additional details. I scratchbuilt the a shields.
Here it is completed.
I've made lots of progress before this became a shelfie. I'll stop at this point for now and will post some more progress shots until I get to the point where I stopped.
